Lights. Camera. POSTER!

Who has not drooled at the sight of Filipina teenage actress Kathryn Bernardo at the back of her on-screen partner Daniel Padilla at the movieMust Be Love.I did not because I wasn’t a fan but I know millions of teeny boppers did, and I understand the craze.  Whose heart has not raced in excitement at the sight of RPatz, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner with the text Breaking Dawn Part 2?  Mine did not, because I was not following the Twilight series.  But I knowmillion hearts stopped at that sight, considering the massive following of the series.

At the high of technological advancement, where trailers and video spoilers could be readily accessible — thanks to YouTube! — movie posters continue to give movie goers a cringe every time.  And why not? Movie posters are printed reminders of the next attraction.  It gets to have us thinking of when the last time we watched a movie inside the theater, which always occur to me, and entices us to go and watch the latest flick.

But movie posters, after it has served its purpose, do not basically just end up trashed, although this is the usual scenario.  For others, it becomes a memento of a wonderful and vivid memory. For some, it becomes a part of a collection.  Hence, movie posters still sparkle and keep a certain value despite the passage of time.  But despite that, there seems to be a void in the local market.  Posters are not really available in the market.  Blame it on technology, where you can simply download and print.  But then, no one can replace a glossy, good resolution movie poster; however, no one will go the extra mile just to get one for you.

And so movie aficionados must have begged the heavens for movie posters.  And the Gods might have heard their every plea and call.  Finally, no one need to search and look far away or go pester people just to get a hold of your much coveted movie poster. Imagine seeing Logan Lerman’s face being the first one you see in the morning and the last one you see every night.

Thanks to Digital Poster Domain, a made-to-order poster enterprise, any poster cravings will be satiated in no time.

The business is the brainchild of Darren Lacson and Miguel Acosta, two self-confessed movie lovers, who felt to fill that void in the market.

“Many people have to contend with asking movie theatre attendants for used, worn-out posters if they want to have one,” says Darren, who has a background on advertising and a passion for cinematic artwork, citing Drew Struzan —his idol — and how he (Struzan) can put the essence of movie on movie posters.

“What’s worst is that people now even resort to buying poster at ridiculously high prices. Price ranges from P2k to as high as P5K for second hand posters. Plus, one has to contend with having just the mainstream movies of the current releases. Digital Poster Domain answers the need for movie posters from all genre and era available on demand.”

But how did all begin? “It started when a friend wanted to customize his home theatre and couldn’t find the movie posters he wanted. I helped him our by contacting another friend from the states and got access to high-definition poster images.”  And just like everything what is always said to a long anecdote of success, the rest was history.

The business has gone through many ups and downs since “people have not yet embraced the beauty and practicality of digitally remastered movie posters.”  And the beauty of remastered movie posters is uncontestable, since, for Digital Posters Domain, they give it to you just like how you first saw it.  And the best part of their service? They can unearth and remaster movie posters all the way from the 40s, but get it at the same price.

Actual Catching Fire poster reproduced by DPD.

“Imagine giving you parents a poster of their first movie together? That’s something not any other gift can provide,” Darren says. And I can’t agree more!

IT ALL BEGINS WITH A SPARK

“Basically, it is the demand that dictates our business direction. Hunger Games has a huge following and that creates a high demand for Hunger Games posters.”  And the massive fanbase generated a great demand for the DPD, hence, skyrocketing their sales.

The demands did not just make way for unbelievable profits.  It also paved for patrons and movie lovers to get to know more of the business.

Darren cites Katniss as his favorite Hunger Games character for her strength of character.  This strength of character does not only reflect to Katniss but also emanates to those who understand her strength and that is what the enterprise show.  At the same time, the strength of character can also be seen not just in all the hardwork the partners put in into the business, but also in the quality of their posters.

Speaking of Catnip, you can also have this poster and be inspired by
our beloved heroine, Katniss Everdeen
“Our movie poster has passed through our strict quality control. We also ensure that posters get to our clients in mint condition. We wrap and pack our posters very carefully taking into consideration how our client would feel when they see a very nicely packed movie poster of their favorite movie.”

The quality plus the reasonable price and impeccable service thus had earned them positive responses from costumers, just like how Katniss’ character earned her the admiration and support of Panem.

CATCHING THE FIRE

Catching Fire is now being shown in various movie houses here in the Philippines.  And just like any avid Hunger Games fan or any movie lover, Darren and Miguel are sure to be among those who will flock the cinemas.

And although the story and the ending is perfectly fine for them, they can’t help but wonder if Lara Croft, the kick-ass hero of the Tomb Raider series and played by the mother of all the perfectly pouty lips, Angelina Jolie, could stand against the headstrong Katniss Everdeen.

We will never know until someone makes a spin off.  And by that time happens, another movie poster will be added to the long list of movie posters offered by DPD.

Now that is fabulous!

  1. Hi. Are you friends with the owners? I bought posters from them last dec.27 and up to now I still have not received any package from them. It's already jan.10. They keep on giving the same excuse and the same line. "We'll advise maam". But they never did. I need to call them more than five times just to get a reply from them. They cannot even provide me with a tracking number or at least a proof of delivery. Then after a few vague replies from them, I cannot contact their no. anymore.
