2014: The Best That I Can Be

Saehae bok manhi badeuseyo!!!  That's Happy New Year in Korean!

It's a brand new year for all of us and it is time to leave all the good and bad behind and start a new, bringing only with us the experiences and most importantly all the learning that 2013 brought us.

As a tradition, people around the globe write New Year's Resolutions.  For the past years, I written a long list of things I want to change and do.  None of them were fulfilled.  So it took me awhile to share to you what my resolutions are since I sorted out things.

For 2014, I only have six resolutions which I plan to keep.

1. Live a healthy life.
I am around 180 to 190 pounds already, which is really bad already.  I haven't climb mountains for quite sometime and didn't do any form of exercise.  I was so engrossed with school and being stressed.

This year, I'm going to the healthier side.  I have started reducing my food intake. I've reduced my rice consumption which is a little hard since I'm a rice eater. But I am taking the challenge. I am now making sure that I am eating breakfast.  Then I'm now a protein, veggies, and fruits guy.  It's a drastic change.  And oh! I cut the sugar.

I'm also back to practicing KPop dances since dancing is one good form of exercise. KPop dances make me sweat a lot so I'm back in the arms of Kpop dances.

I'm also going to change my sleeping habits.  I will try my best to really sleep early, getting eight hours of sleep.  A decent sleep.

The photo says it all.

My goal is to reduce my weight to 120 pounds and be able to live healthily.  And with that, Britney is telling me this.

2. Save and earn money.
I'm not really the type of person who saves money.  But before, my money lasts longer.  Now, in a day or two, all the money I get is gone. So now, I will try my best to be more money-wise.

In an exchanging gift session with my BFFs, I received a piggy bank which is something that I want to buy over Christmas break.  The reason is obvious.

Also, since I have big plans for the year, including watching the 2ne1 World Tour concert in Manila this coming May 17, I am already scouring for online jobs.  So if you can help me save up big time, tell me.  *winks*

Meet Doinkie, my cute pig piggy bank.

3. To strengthen relationship with God
Last year, I have been very busy.  My weekends didn't become rest days for me but an extension of my weekdays.  That is why, every Sunday, I can't be with mom to attend mass.  Truth be told, I don't go to mass if I'm not with family.  It is a family affair for me.  If I wake up, I always say I'm tired, whether true or not.

This year, I plan to be regular in attending Sunday mass. I will try to read the Bible daily and ponder on God's words.  I thought that I was busy with things, I forgot The One who made all things possible.

I never forgot to pray but to develop intimacy with God,
I need more than a prayer.  Its time to grow spiritually.

Last Sunday, I attended the mass but went out when the homily started. Blame it to bad stomach. So yeah, I missed one already. :(

4. Be more focused and organized
I think I have a problem of being focused.  I like doing a lot of things but I don't actually get to attend to attend to them all because I always lose my focus. Part of the problem is with time management.  And my habit to procrastinate.

This year, I made a promise to organize my timetable more and attend to it.  If staying organized means buying a planner, I will.  What I really need is a good looking planner that will constantly remind me of what I need to do.

On focus, we'll, internet is a big distraction.  There is Facebook and YouTube.  So I will moderately use Facebook once I post this.  Social media is cutting a big chunk of my time, leaving me so unproductive.  So yeah! Less social media, means more time to do things and focus on it.  And the key to attend to all the things that I need to focus on is being organized.

5. Be kinder and nicer.
Everyone is a biatch.  But being mean and sulky has its own time.  This year, I would like to be nicer to people.  I think that with everything that has happened, we need to be more understanding of one another.

But being nice doesn't mine being plastic. It doesn't mean tolerating what is crooked. I think that I also have to be more upfront but in a kinder way.

And being nice may also mean being harsh when it is demanded.  But in the end, I should still be a kind and nice individual who gives joy, hope, and encouragement to people.

6. Learn a new language.
I plan to learn Korean this year.  I'm starting with the Hangul, the Korean alphabet.  I think it is a good stating point.  I hope I could be fluent in Korean at the end of this year.

With a shortened list, I think it is easier for me to keep my resolutions.

How about you? What are your New Year's Resolutions?

Miss Universe 2013 Fiercest Ice Queen

I know. This article is wayyyy long overdue.  But I hope you guys consider.  Too many calamities happened that affected my brain cells, our electricity, and our internet connection.  I hope you guys understand. x0x0

I’m a big fan of pageantry for reasons I cannot explain.  Maybe because I love looking at the gowns (I would love to be a fashion designer one day) and I love seeing beautiful women be really beautiful.

People look at pageantry in a different light.  For the females, it is their source of inspiration.  Like more than just looks, pageant women give ordinary women an insight on how to be the woman that they ought to be — poised, graceful, and confident.  For men, this is how they study geography.  And for the gay community, it is the moment to feel the excitement, even at the comforts of their own sofa, the thrill to be a beauty queen.  It is almost every gay’s dream.

Miss Universe is considered to be the most important beauty pageant in the world.  It has the most expensive franchise and also the most publicized.  Year after year, billions of people from all over the globe watch the crowning of a new Miss Universe who will receive a crown, a sash, a bouquet, a New York apartment, and live a dream and experience of a lifetime.  And the national delegates prepare extensively, even push themselves really hard, just to be in perfect form so that they’ll be ready to battle for the crown.

This year, the Miss Universe 2013 pageant was held in Crocus City Hall in Moscow, Russia.  86 ladies competed for the world’s most coveted crown.  But at the end of the show, the 25-year-old Marketing professional from Venezuela, Maria Gabriella Isler, won her country’s seventh Miss Universe crown.  That also means that Venezuela is able to produce three Miss Universes in six years, with the other two a historic back-to-back finish by Dayana Mendoza and Stefania Fernandez in 2008 and 2009, respectively.

Before the final show, the 86 contestants competed in a preliminary competition which will seal the fate of the ladies since only 15 of them will advance to the final show.  They also battled it out online to receive a spot in the top 16 through the fan vote.  And yes, they also showed a piece of their country through their National Costumes (I won’t count the Transformer costume of Miss USA) and of course, their inner top model with their Fadil Barisha glamshot.

This year, the theme of the glamshot is ice princess which is actually fitting since it is already winter in Russia.  After amassing the highest online vote, the winner of the Miss Photogenic title is Paulina Krupinska of Poland.

Poland's official Miss Universe 2013 glamshot.

In That Fabulous Blog’s Facebook Page, I ask my readers to vote for who among the 45 stunning women that me along with some people have pre-selected has the fiercest post and the most j’adore photo.  Also, another panel of people scored the 45 photos.  The average combined scores from our readers and the average combines scores from our panel will consists 40% each, making their scores a total of 80% while the remaining 20% will be coming from the top 45’s previous scores.

After the results have been tabulated, here are the MISS UNIVERSE’S 2013 FIERCEST ICE QUEENS!

15. Serbia (Ana Vrcelj, 21)
UNPLACED
Fierceness Score: 7.915

What is remarkable about Serbia is the piercing gaze that she shows to the camera while her pose is just simple.  Her wolf-like angular face is something really hot!

14. Japan (Yukimi Matsuo, 26)
UNPLACED
Fierceness Score: 7.930

Spell sweet! Its J-A-P-A-N.  Miss Japan's sweet smile charmed the special jury and the audience which made her able to creep into the fiercest 15.

13. Austria (Doris Hofmann, 23)
UNPLACED
Fierceness Score: 7.9608

"She looks like one of those VS (Victoria Secret) models," says one of our readers.  We can't agree even more! Ms. Austria is certainly able to bring fierce and sexy with this photo.

12. Philippines (Ariella Arida, 24)
3RD RUNNER UP
Fierceness Score: 7.9612

Albite looking awkward because she lost her neck, Ariella surely has adored her followers and that is why she was able to make it to the top 15, taking the 12th spot.

11. Australia (Olivia Wells, 19)
UNPLACED
Fierceness Score: 8.027

Ms. Australia sure evokes fierceness simply by letting her eyes do all the talking.  She looks like a boss with that hand on her neck and those piercing eyes.

10. Russia (Elmira Abdrazakova, 19)
UNPLACED
Fierceness Score: 8.094

The home country sure isn't just your average pretty girl.  Elmira proves to be one of the fiercer girls in the bunch.  Adorned with beautiful brows and naturally puckered lips,  Miss Russia is definitely a chameleon who can switch from sweet, to regal to fierce.

9. France (Hinarani de Longeaux, 23)
UNPLACED
Fierceness Score: 8.139

Miss France is definitely an exotic looking French rep, all thanks to being from Tahiti.  But aside from exotic, Hinarani is definitely a woman who exudes sexy and she proves it when Fadil Barisha captured this shot!

8. Puerto Rico (Monic Perez, 23)
TOP 15
Fierceness Score: 8.191

All hail the sexy Monic Perez, the bombshell representative of Puerto Rico.  She is considered by many to be among the top contenders and with this photo, she proves that she is among the girls to beat!  Unfortunately, Monic was not able to advance further the Top 15.  :(

7. Ukraine (Olga Storohenko, 21)
TOP 10
Fierceness Score: 8.211

Ukraine has been sending strong delegates recently and Olga is definitely is the perfect combination of Anna Polavska's quiet charm and Olesya Stefanko's allure.  She is the favorite of the jury, with this photo giving sexy and fierceness even without trying.

6. Indonesia (Whulandary Herman, 26)
TOP 15
Fierceness Score: 8.216

One of the best Asian delegates in the recent years, Whulandary scored Indonesia's second placement in the Top 15.  This lovely Indonesian has also captured the heart of the jury and the readers with this photo.  It is the perfect blend of mystery, candidness, and fierceness.

5. Germany (Anne-Julia Hagen, 23)
UNPLACED
Fierceness Score: 8.233

Miss Germany's shows you that a classic face could still be sexy.  Appealing as a vintage pin up model, Anne-Julia is able to pull off a very sophisticated but very sexy photograph in this one.

4. USA (Erin Brady, 26)
TOP 10
Fierceness Score: 8.277

Just like Miss Australia, USA's Erin Brady lets her eyes do all the talking.  An effortless shot, Erin Brady is smoldering hot with simply those eyes staring right to you.

3. Norway (Mari Chauhan, 24)
UNPLACED
Fierceness Score: 8.482

This photo is a risk but Miss Norway pulled this stunningly fierce photo.  All the risk paid off!

2. Azerbaijan (Aysel Manafova, 21)
UNPLACED
Fierceness Score: 8.518

Azerbaijan just debuted this year in Miss Universe and although Aysel's performance was lackluster,
this photo, undeniably, is stunning.  The way she shows of her body is great and her face is just beautiful.  It is that commanding vibe of hers that gave her the jury's nod.  And the people's vote.

And the fiercest ice queen is…

CZECH REPUBLIC!!!

Garnering an overall score of 8.838, Gabriella Kratochvilova, 23 of Czech Republic is the top pick as the fiercest one of them all.  The short-haired beauty, the first beauty queen to sport the 'do from hair country, resembles imbibes a feline yet queenly aura.  It is her stand.  It is her hand on top of her head with that furry stuff around it.  Actually, the world just love the girl.

Congratulations to Ms. Czech Republic.

P.S. Only those who voted for the girls who are in the top 15 plus Miss Poland will be drawn for the chance to win P200.00 worth of cellphone load.  Winner will be announced on December 10.

Lights. Camera. POSTER!

Who has not drooled at the sight of Filipina teenage actress Kathryn Bernardo at the back of her on-screen partner Daniel Padilla at the movieMust Be Love.I did not because I wasn’t a fan but I know millions of teeny boppers did, and I understand the craze.  Whose heart has not raced in excitement at the sight of RPatz, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner with the text Breaking Dawn Part 2?  Mine did not, because I was not following the Twilight series.  But I knowmillion hearts stopped at that sight, considering the massive following of the series.

At the high of technological advancement, where trailers and video spoilers could be readily accessible — thanks to YouTube! — movie posters continue to give movie goers a cringe every time.  And why not? Movie posters are printed reminders of the next attraction.  It gets to have us thinking of when the last time we watched a movie inside the theater, which always occur to me, and entices us to go and watch the latest flick.

But movie posters, after it has served its purpose, do not basically just end up trashed, although this is the usual scenario.  For others, it becomes a memento of a wonderful and vivid memory. For some, it becomes a part of a collection.  Hence, movie posters still sparkle and keep a certain value despite the passage of time.  But despite that, there seems to be a void in the local market.  Posters are not really available in the market.  Blame it on technology, where you can simply download and print.  But then, no one can replace a glossy, good resolution movie poster; however, no one will go the extra mile just to get one for you.

And so movie aficionados must have begged the heavens for movie posters.  And the Gods might have heard their every plea and call.  Finally, no one need to search and look far away or go pester people just to get a hold of your much coveted movie poster. Imagine seeing Logan Lerman’s face being the first one you see in the morning and the last one you see every night.

Thanks to Digital Poster Domain, a made-to-order poster enterprise, any poster cravings will be satiated in no time.

The business is the brainchild of Darren Lacson and Miguel Acosta, two self-confessed movie lovers, who felt to fill that void in the market.

“Many people have to contend with asking movie theatre attendants for used, worn-out posters if they want to have one,” says Darren, who has a background on advertising and a passion for cinematic artwork, citing Drew Struzan —his idol — and how he (Struzan) can put the essence of movie on movie posters.

“What’s worst is that people now even resort to buying poster at ridiculously high prices. Price ranges from P2k to as high as P5K for second hand posters. Plus, one has to contend with having just the mainstream movies of the current releases. Digital Poster Domain answers the need for movie posters from all genre and era available on demand.”

But how did all begin? “It started when a friend wanted to customize his home theatre and couldn’t find the movie posters he wanted. I helped him our by contacting another friend from the states and got access to high-definition poster images.”  And just like everything what is always said to a long anecdote of success, the rest was history.

The business has gone through many ups and downs since “people have not yet embraced the beauty and practicality of digitally remastered movie posters.”  And the beauty of remastered movie posters is uncontestable, since, for Digital Posters Domain, they give it to you just like how you first saw it.  And the best part of their service? They can unearth and remaster movie posters all the way from the 40s, but get it at the same price.

Actual Catching Fire poster reproduced by DPD.

“Imagine giving you parents a poster of their first movie together? That’s something not any other gift can provide,” Darren says. And I can’t agree more!

IT ALL BEGINS WITH A SPARK

“Basically, it is the demand that dictates our business direction. Hunger Games has a huge following and that creates a high demand for Hunger Games posters.”  And the massive fanbase generated a great demand for the DPD, hence, skyrocketing their sales.

The demands did not just make way for unbelievable profits.  It also paved for patrons and movie lovers to get to know more of the business.

Darren cites Katniss as his favorite Hunger Games character for her strength of character.  This strength of character does not only reflect to Katniss but also emanates to those who understand her strength and that is what the enterprise show.  At the same time, the strength of character can also be seen not just in all the hardwork the partners put in into the business, but also in the quality of their posters.

Speaking of Catnip, you can also have this poster and be inspired by
our beloved heroine, Katniss Everdeen
“Our movie poster has passed through our strict quality control. We also ensure that posters get to our clients in mint condition. We wrap and pack our posters very carefully taking into consideration how our client would feel when they see a very nicely packed movie poster of their favorite movie.”

The quality plus the reasonable price and impeccable service thus had earned them positive responses from costumers, just like how Katniss’ character earned her the admiration and support of Panem.

CATCHING THE FIRE

Catching Fire is now being shown in various movie houses here in the Philippines.  And just like any avid Hunger Games fan or any movie lover, Darren and Miguel are sure to be among those who will flock the cinemas.

And although the story and the ending is perfectly fine for them, they can’t help but wonder if Lara Croft, the kick-ass hero of the Tomb Raider series and played by the mother of all the perfectly pouty lips, Angelina Jolie, could stand against the headstrong Katniss Everdeen.

We will never know until someone makes a spin off.  And by that time happens, another movie poster will be added to the long list of movie posters offered by DPD.

Now that is fabulous!
