RED

I'm a country music fan. I certainly dig the genre's emphasis on having good lyrics or narrative rather than putting more weight on the musicality (tunes, melody, or whatever it is called).  But don't get me wrong.  Country music could just rival pop in terms of auditory confection, although on a personal level, I believe country is way better.

Shania Twain is my ultimate favorite country singer and no one's gonna change that fact. For those who don't even know who she is, she is no other than the voice behind From This Moment On, You're Still The One, and You Got A Way (the song from Notting Hill).  She has this very awesome voice and although her lyrics speak with more maturity, her songs are fantastic.  Try listening to I'm Gonna Getcha Good, The Woman In Me (Needs The Man In You), and That Don't Impress Me Much and you'll know why I am so in love with her.

But this post is not about Shania.  Perhaps I'll dedicate to her one.  But for now, I'll write about another country singer who also captivated me.  And she is no other than Taylor Swift.

Taylor Swift is among the new acts that has amassed a great following. Who wouldn't? She sings songs that many youngsters could relate to, especially when she starts to belt her lovesongs out.  The joys of falling in and the pains of falling out of love --- we all went through that.  Hence, we could all relate.

Last October, Switfies all over the world went gaga over the release of TSwift's fourth studio album - RED.  But why RED?  Taylor Swift said in a statement that it is "because of the tumultuous, crazy adventures in love and loss that it chronicles. In my mind, when you experience love that’s fast paced and out of control and mixes infatuation, jealousy, frustration, miscommunication, and all of those lovely emotions…in retrospect, it all looks red"

The Deluxe Edition cover.  This is actually from my Digital Booklet.
The Standard Edition of the album contains sixteen brand new songs from the country sweetheart while the Deluxe Edition (the one I have, digitally) has six additional tracks, including the demo versions of Treacherous and Red.

So far, Taylor has released six promo singles for the album and two music videos while the MV for I Knew You Were Trouble is to be released yet.

I'm actually currently loving the entire album.  It's a different TSwift, although with the same lyrical plot (yeah, about boys...boys...and boys).  The way she experimented with different music genres is commendable, I should say.

The title single Red is LSS-inducing that it has become my bathroom themesong.  The song is filled with metaphors, linking every emotion to a color or to something else. And there is something new about Taylor Swift in this song.  She is driving a new Maserati  than a pick-up truck.

Treacherous is also among my favorites.  The lyrics, as how I understand it, is all about the chase, the feeling about being swept away by the rushing tides of love.  It talks about the strong attraction, although the feeling is deceptive, and all of it was a false hope.

We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together is such a feel good song, albeit the very strong message it sends - we are over and will never ever gonna get back together.  And the music video is nothing but fun and very true to the song's meaning.

The large eyeglasses. The pajamas. The hot ex-beau. The band in
animal costumes. And the song itself. Who have though saying
I hate you could be this quirky and fun?

I Almost Do is the perfect song for those who remember and for those who are resisting the urge to call or text somebody. (and i just want to tell you / it takes everything in me / not to call you / and i wish i could run to you / and i hope you know that / every time i don't, i almost do / I almost do)  It reflects every bit of everything every person who is trying to move on is feeling.  I am 100% certain, most of us could relate to the song.  Couple it with another sad song - Sad, Beautiful, Tragic - and you'll be in emo-mode, since the song is all about (as for my own analysis) a couple who are parting ways without fixing their relationship or saying the things they wish to say, and as time went by, one is able to cope up while the other is still haunted by the other's memory. (and time is taking its sweet time erasing you / and you've got your demons and darling / they all look like me)

Taylor's duets with Ed Sheeran for Everything Has Changed and with Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol in The Last Time are great.  Taylor isn't really the one who should be seeing duets but I should really say that the songs came really well.  There is a certain chemistry in the voices of Ed and Tay in Everything Has Changed.  Mr. Lightbody and Taylor, on the other, came out with such an endearing song about asking your beau/girl to make you his/her top priority.

I've listened to every song in the album but no one beats the effect given to me by TSwift's Begin Again.  The song is light, warm, and very positive, imbibing a resilient message that after a messy breakup or a very devastating heartbreak is the chance to start from scratch and yes, just to be in love again.  The song is...okay read my full thoughts here and the music video is nothing but perfect. I'm in love with the song and I'll be forever grateful to Taylor for writing such a beautiful song. It is such a beautiful reminder.
How I wish that random meetings like this could happen...with all the sparks
flying of course.  Paris proved to be the best backdrop for this music video. And
I swear, everyone who wants to be in love again wants to be in the city of lights.

It may be a cold season but Taylor has sprinkled the world with love and painted the globe with RED.
