Colorfully Rockin' the Boho Look

Sometime in July this year, our school's student government held a bohemian-themed acquaintance party.  And even though I love the boho look for being so eccentric that in a few tweeks, it could be so fashion forward, I was never thrilled with the announcements.  Bohol is never a fashion capital and never were there any Bohemian babe and dude you see around.  Everyone might have heard of Boho but only a few knows what the real Boho is.

So what really is the Boho look?  Accordingly, the boho look is a way of dressing that is inspired by European gypsies and the hippies.  The look imbibes a nomadic, free-spirited feel.  As for me, the boho chic look is a play of colors and details.  It is, observably, more of bright colors or striking details, although it doesn't usually follow all the time.  It usually touches on cultures and ethnicities as most bohemian looks are based, aside from the gypsies, on African, Macedonian, Native American, and Moroccan look.

The above photographs are what I view as Bohemian for women.  The problem is I never knew Bohemian for men exist! How could I not know?  The problem with what I saw here in the internet is that the boho male look is more of a fall fashion for men, more like dressing up while downplaying the pieces.  It doesn't really imbibe what Bohemian is all about.  Wonderfully, I found some photos that presents the Boho look I perceive and that is more of a gawky hippie look.

The above photo is still downplaying but the prints, it somehow exude boho! :))

This is so hippie and so boho! Like wow!

And so going back to the event I did not attend (coz I won't get a ride going home), I should say that many did not fully grasp the concept of Boho while the others resorted to being pretty instead of being fashionable.  So the question is who were that night's best dressed?

So after days of browsing to all those who had photos of those who attended, I was only able to select (drum rolls) ONLY ONE PAIR.  Only one male and one female came into the best dressed list for perfectly exuding Bohemian.  The hosts and the models for the Bohemian walk were excluded (although not all of them were Bohemian at all! Imagine a black leather jacket for Bohemian. LOL)

Okay, without further adieu, the best dressed male and female for that night are...

The outfit incorporates everything Bohemian --- prints, accessories, and a tribal feel.  The girl's attire screams gypsy with her printed garb.  The lace vest brings the softness and brings an adorable contrast to the loud prints.  The bangles and the turban finished the entire outfit.

The male, on the other hand, gives a North American vibe with his choice of neutrals.  The vest is also adorable and very Bohemian.  The accessories as well brings Africa to North America.

Here are the ones who almost made it (or made it but didn't go that far?):

Don't mind the guy. Look at the girl's outfit.  The colors are girly yet striking and her locks look adorable in those messy curls.  Sadly, her accessories were missing in action that night.  Still, she looks effortless chic.

The printed dress is laudable and the hair is wow!  It's just that there isn't anything else, aside from that dress that says "Rawr!".  Also, the accessories are more of the gothic and emo sub-culture and surely, not for Boho!

Don't mind the girl.  Look at the guy.  Although his fashion sensibilities, adjudged on his outfit, is far from the male best dressed, still his outfit captures the Bohemian I find in the net (I'm the hippie lover, you know!).  The scarf is something that I would really love and the accessories, even though minimal, still provides casualty.  A straw hat and/or a vest could have finished this look.

Bohemian is a very artsy and playful fashion statement.  A few reference, a great imagination, and a great deal of fashion sense will make a Boho look striking yet polished.  And the best dressed have successfully captured that...or perhaps close to that.

So to those who made it on my list, congratulations! And to those who did not...well...what should I say? \m/

  1. Boho is also about being unconventional. It highlights comfort.
